About Big Sugar
Big Sugar is a Canadian blues-rock/reggae band formed in Toronto in 1988 by Gordie Johnson, who serves as the lead singer, lead guitarist, and principal songwriter. Known for blending rock, blues, and reggae influences, the band gained prominence in the 1990s and early 2000s with albums like Five Hundred Pounds (1993), Hemi-Vision (1996), and Heated (1998), featuring hits such as "Diggin' a Hole," "Let It Ride," and "Red Rover." Their sound is marked by Johnson's gritty guitar work, soulful vocals, and a fusion of roots rock and reggae rhythms. Over the decades, Big Sugar has seen lineup changes but has maintained a strong presence in the Canadian music scene, releasing new albums, vinyl reissues, and continuing to tour extensively.
