About Durham County Poets
The Durham County Poets are a Canadian blues and soul band hailing from Ormstown, Quebec, celebrated for their unique ability to blend blues, soul, folk, R&B, gospel, and jazz into a cohesive and compelling sound. Formed from the early partnership of Kevin Harvey and Neil Elsmore as The Boll Weevil Acoustic Band, the group later expanded to include Carl Rufh, Rob Couture, and Jim Preimel, creating a lineup that emphasizes both musical versatility and strong collaborative chemistry. Over the years, the band has developed a reputation for dynamic, soulful live performances, often described as “sonic shapeshifting” for their seamless movement across genres while maintaining the emotional authenticity of traditional blues. Their 2019 album Hand Me Down Blues earned a Juno Award nomination for Blues Album of the Year, exemplifying their skill at crafting songs that combine heartfelt lyrics with intricate guitar work, driving bass lines, and rich vocal harmonies.
