About Experiment Specimen
Experiment Specimen is a Toronto-based metal act formed in 2012 by guitarist/vocalist Nick Radlovic and drummer Johnny Macri, delivering a tightly executed blend of technical death metal, thrash precision, and progressive structure. Known for their sharp musicianship and intricate arrangements, the band builds songs around fast, palm-muted riffing, rapid tempo shifts, and layered guitar work, supported by aggressive yet controlled vocal delivery. Their 2023 release Purity of Purpose highlights this approach with dense compositions that balance speed and clarity, while their 2025 album Ghosts of the Old Kingdom expands their sound into more atmospheric and thematic territory, incorporating melodic passages and cinematic transitions without losing intensity. Lyrically, Experiment Specimen focuses on science fiction, cosmic phenomena, and existential concepts, often framing their music around futuristic or otherworldly narratives. As part of Canada’s underground metal scene and associated with CDN Records, the band continues to evolve through technically demanding material and live performances that emphasize precision, energy, and a distinctly modern take on extreme metal.
