About Monach
Monach is a five-piece pop-punk and emo-influenced rock band from Kingston that has become a recognizable presence in the region’s modern alternative scene since forming in 2017. Originally performing under the name Hot Knives before rebranding as Monach, the group developed a melodic yet emotionally charged sound shaped by contemporary pop-punk acts such as The Wonder Years and PUP. The lineup—featuring vocalist Andrew Pitre alongside Curtis Nicholson, Wryan Doyle, Nick Deslandes, and Darren Koculyn—combines energetic guitar work, driving rhythm sections, and heartfelt lyrics that explore themes of mental health, complicated relationships, and the challenges of early adulthood. Through consistent touring and participation in the Kingston independent music circuit, Monach has built a dedicated local following while expanding into regional venues and festivals, including appearances tied to the city’s vibrant campus and underground music communities. Their evolving catalog of releases, highlighted by singles such as “Thank You, Chef” and projects like the album A Light to Guide You, showcases a band balancing introspective storytelling with upbeat, crowd-friendly songwriting.
