About Sahira The Djinn
Sahira The Djinn is a Peterborough, Ontario–based drag and multimedia performance project known for its experimental blend of music, theatre, dance, and political storytelling. Led by the multidisciplinary artist Sahira, often described as “the drag djinn of Nogojiwanong,” the act combines music performance with visual art, choreography, and spoken word to create immersive, transformative live experiences. Rather than functioning as a traditional band, Sahira The Djinn operates as a performance collective where sound and stagecraft intersect, often incorporating original music, DJ elements, and theatrical narrative to explore themes of identity, decolonization, spirituality, and social justice. The project has appeared in a range of artistic and community settings, including festivals, cabaret-style shows, and interdisciplinary arts programs such as those supported by Public Energy Performing Arts. Known for highly expressive and emotionally charged performances, Sahira The Djinn uses music and drag as tools for activism and cultural storytelling, often challenging conventional boundaries between audience and performer. With a growing presence in Canada’s alternative performance scene, the project continues to build a reputation for innovative, genre-defying work that merges music, myth, and lived experience into a singular artistic voice.
