About Sweetgrass
The SweetGrass Band is a bluegrass group from Southern Ontario led by Chief JimBob Marsden, who provides bass and vocals. The band blends original songs with classic bluegrass covers, delivering high-energy performances that showcase their skill and passion for the genre. Core members over time have included Ginny Mcilmoyle, Al Kirby, Mike del Mastro, and Lorne Leane, with each contributing to the band’s dynamic sound. SweetGrass has earned recognition in the Canadian bluegrass scene, winning Promising Group for 2014 at the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards and performing at festivals such as Bluegrass in the Country on Manitoulin Island. Their music emphasizes traditional bluegrass instrumentation, including banjo, guitar, and fiddle, while incorporating modern twists to engage contemporary audiences. The band remains active in Southern Ontario, bringing lively performances to events and festivals across the region, promoting both the genre and Indigenous musical heritage.
