Dvorak - Serenade for Strings
From Baroque classics to modern-day melodies, the York Chamber Ensemble performs a strings-only concert showcasing the emotional and technical prowess of the instrument. Telemann’s Viola Concerto, one of the earliest for viola, blends elegance with lively dance rhythms, highlighting the instrument’s rich tones. DvoÅ™ák’s Serenade for Strings brings warmth and charm, weaving Bohemian folk-inspired dances with tender lyricism. African American composer George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, composed in 1946, is a poignant tribute to his late grandmother, filled with deep tenderness and sorrow. The program also includes the world premiere of a new commission by Canadian composer Matthew Todd, whose innovative soundscapes add a fresh, contemporary dimension to this diverse musical journey.
