About Rose House Museum
Nestled in the heart of Waupoos, Ontario, the Rose House Museum is one of Prince Edward County's most treasured historic sites. Built in the early 1800s by Peter Rose, a Loyalist settler of Hessian descent, the house was constructed using salvaged timber from the area's original Lutheran Church. This modest farmhouse remained in the Rose family for five generations and has been carefully preserved with few alterations, offering visitors a rare and authentic glimpse into early settler life. The Rose House Museum provides a meaningful experience for those interested in local history, United Empire Loyalist heritage, and rural pioneer architecture. Inside, the home is furnished with period artifacts and interpretive displays that showcase daily life for the Rose family, who raised 11 children within its walls. Knowledgeable staff share captivating stories about the Rose lineage and the broader Marysburgh settlement, enriching each visit with historical context and personal anecdotes. Operated seasonally by Prince Edward County's museum services, Rose House is open to the public from spring to fall, with its picturesque grounds also available for private rentals.
